Identifying hyperhotspots in genome could be key in preventative skin cancer treatment


A new study has identified areas in the human genome that are more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and therefore more likely to develop skin cancer causing mutations. According to the research, which was published online ahead of print in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (Nov. 13, 2019), the so-called “hyperhotspots” can be 170-times more sensitive to sunlight than the genome average.
